Alternative Income Streams - October 2008

Another month is done and it’s time to take a look at my alternative income for the previous month. In past months, I’ve given a number that was very specific, down to the cents. This month, I can’t be as specific - the power cord on my laptop is broken, so I have [...]

Working Two Jobs at the Same Time

CNN has an article that I find extremely interesting… some employees are working two jobs at the same time. This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. People are so used to multitasking nowadays that it’s hard to imagine people not working two jobs at the same time. I’m not much different. [...]

Alternative Income Streams - September 2008

Happy September! I’m pretty happy to see August to come to an end since I’ve had numerous problems getting my vacation going. No matter, let’s get to the business of reporting on my alternative income.
From a revenue standpoint it was a solid month. Like every month, some aspects of advertising go down [...]

Alternative Income Streams - August 2008

It’s the first of month… that’s usually the time I go back and look at my alternative income from the previous month. As a refresher my definition alternative income encompasses some kind of passive component to it. It may be completely passive, like earnings from interest and dividends. Or it may be very active, but potentially passive, like blogging income. For instance, if I stopped writing tomorrow, I’d still be making some residual income from the previous days of blogging.
It was very much a banner month in alternative income. If I look at the blogging [...]

Multilevel Marketing Fuel Additive

A few months ago my neighbor and his dad came over to talk to me for a few minutes. They told me about a great new product to help improve gas mileage. They showed me a small 2-oz. bottle of a product called EnviroMax Plus, which I thought was a sample for me [...]

Alternative Income Streams - July 2008

The calendar flips and it’s time to reflect on my alternative income from last month. Executive summary: Not as good as last month, but more sustainable.
This was the first time in a couple of months that I didn’t have $500 from Revolution Media Exchange referrals to factor in. I knew this was going to happen so it wasn’t exactly unplanned.
The other disappointment came from the Forbes Network. I’m so disappointed that I’m not even going to link to them. They contacted me last November to be a part of their advertising network. They said that [...]

Alternative Income Streams - June 2008

Due to my recent vacation, I was unable to compile numbers of my alternative from May until today. So while I typically like to get this out on the first or second day of the month, here we are in the 9th day.
Once again, my alternative income continues it’s roller coaster ride. It almost seems to want to stay in a narrow range from $1500 to $2000. This month it was up slightly to $1,543.10. As always, this is after taxes and expenses.
It’s important to mention the expenses. This month, I’ve actually spent a little [...]

Alternative Income Streams - May 2008

It’s time once again to update my Alternative Income. For the first time in a few months, I actually made more money that the previous month.
For the first time in quite awhile, it makes sense to break out the revenue numbers vs. the net gain. My revenue jumped from $1491 to $1611 this month. However, because I bought a logo I’m in love with from Lost Spots, I have to factor in that cost. I’m choosing to amortize those costs over some months. By the way, if you are looking for a logo design and [...]

Alternative Income Streams - April 2008

I’m a little late with the report this month. My pseudo April Fools article about buying a tank had priority. I call it pseudo April Fools, because I honestly would like to own a tank someday. I have a pile of other frivolous purchases that I’d rather make first.
The second reason I’m a late posting this report is that I’ve taken a part time job. This blog, and it’s success, has directly led to a consulting gig. It’s 20 hours a week. I wish I could say that it’s alternative income, but it’s not. [...]

Net Worth Update - March 2008

With the middle of the month comes the update to my net worth. Last month, I was very happy to break even. This month that would have been a pipe dream. With the stock market dropping, my retirement accounts nearly dropped to less than $100,000 in value. In total, my net worth dropped roughly $4,500 to finish at $208,683.
Aside from that equity drop, which I can do little about, my finances were break even. I have taken made good strides in frugal living over the last month. I’ve realized that on a day-to-day basis, [...]

Defining Alternative Income

I caught Moolanomy’s 40 alternative income ideas and resources through my feed-reader this week. It’s a great article with a lot of tips (40 of them obviously). However as I was going through them, I realized that we don’t share the same definition of alternative income. This was reinforced by the comment that Dividend Growth wrote on my last alternative income report, “If you get a part-time job at Wal-Mart, you can increase your “alternative income”…
Defining alternative income is very difficult. I think many people may consider it adding any type of income stream. I [...]

Alternative Income Streams - March 2008

I’m a little later than usual with the report this month. The weekend threw me off and I wanted to get yesterday’s Lending Club news out. It looks like I can’t put off reporting my alternative income progress any longer.
For the second time in two month this income has been a bit of a disappointment. I take a little solace in that it was a short month, but even in full month, I would have ended with less money than last month. My final gains for the month were $1,837.54 (after taxes). It’s still a [...]

Alternative Income Streams - February 2008

It’s February 1st, and time once again to review my alternative income progress. Though I still call it my alternative income, it is the majority of my current income, but not all of it. I do some freelance work that I don’t include in these numbers because they are paid at an hourly [...]

Alternative Income Streams - January 2008

Happy New Year everyone! With the start of a new month, it’s time to review my alternative income progress.

Alternative Income Streams Progress - September 2007

With the beginning of the September just a day away, I thought I’d push the monthly alternative income update up one day rather than back 3 or 4 for the long weekend and my Save Money Monday. Last month, the magic word was “perspective” as most of the gains just offset the emergency [...]

Alternative Income Streams Progress - August 2007

With the beginning of the month comes my alternative income update. This month, the magic word is “perspective.” Last night, my wife’s car got broken into. Our Magellan GPS was stolen - a loss of about $400. There was $300 worth of damage. Her “emergency” $20 bill was stolen [...]
